Helpful guides
Artex removal near Worlds End
Not every textured coating contains asbestos. A small sample tells you which you have, so your plasterer can carry on if it’s clear. Common materials are Artex ceilings, coated ceiling roses and stipple finishes, and typical jobs are coatings already disturbed and textured walls before a refit.
In a village like Worlds End, textured coatings turn up in cottages and later homes alike. We only recommend work that is needed, and we will say when the right answer is to leave something alone.

Limits to be aware of
To be clear about the scope:
- We test before removal, since a negative result changes everything
- The room being worked on has to be empty and sealed off
- Other materials may need their own approach

Worlds End questions
Could my house in Worlds End contain asbestos?
That depends on when it was built and altered: asbestos was used until the 1999 ban, so older homes and older alterations in Worlds End can contain it. Common places include garage roofs, textured ceilings, floor tiles, soffits and flues.
Do textured ceilings in Worlds End homes contain asbestos?
Some may, but many coatings do not contain asbestos. Testing a sample is the only way to know.
Do you work for landlords and businesses?
Yes, as well as homeowners. Tell us about the property and what you need.
Will I get the price in writing?
Every time: you get the scope and price in writing.
How do I get a quote?
Ring 07833 053 749, or send the details through our contact page. Tell us the postcode, what the material is and where, and send photos if you can.
Is it better to remove the coating or the ceiling?
Both work; it depends on the room. We’ll advise for each room.
Is it OK to scrape off Artex?
Not before testing. Sanding or dry scraping an asbestos coating releases fibres.
Can you quote from photos?
Photos are often enough to give a quote, but larger or unclear jobs may need a visit.

Options to consider in Worlds End
Test, leave, cover or remove? If it’s intact and no work will go through it, leaving or covering can make sense; if you want smooth ceilings or need to cut into it, removal is generally better. A test can sometimes save the cost of removal altogether, because the material is clear.
What you get
- Jobs planned to HSE guidance
- Plain-English advice, including when to leave things alone
- No removal until we know what it is
- Paperwork you can show your buyer, landlord or builder
Take a look at how we quote and published price ranges.
What it costs
We base our quote on:
- The category of work
- How much there is
- Access to the area
- The survey scope
Every quote says whether VAT is included, so you can compare like with like.
What to photograph
The most useful photos are:
- An idea of size
- An overall view
- Visible markings
- A closer photo of the material, without touching it
We quote each job individually, because no two are the same. To start, use our quote form or call 07833 053 749.
Should you do it yourself?
Fragile roofs are a serious falls risk, as well as an asbestos risk, so stay off it.
Sanding, drilling, cutting and jet-washing are the worst things you can do to asbestos materials, so avoid them completely.
What happens next
If other rooms have textured coatings, record whether they’ve been tested, so future work is planned properly.
Once we’re done:
- Keep the results and paperwork
- Clear the rooms before the work
- Line up the plasterer for afterwards
- Keep pets out of the work area
Things not to do
Keep away from flaking or fallen coating and ask for advice.
Do not drill or cut into textured ceilings until you know what they contain.
- Nothing removed blind: unknown materials are tested first
- Planned to HSE guidance and the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012
- Paperwork for your records: reports, lab results and consignment notes
- Legal disposal at a permitted site, with a consignment note
