Asbestos removal in London and the South East

Most asbestos in homes and small buildings is asbestos cement, textured coatings or vinyl floor tiles. Under HSE guidance, work on these materials is usually non-licensed, or notifiable non-licensed, but it still has to be planned and done with the right controls: keeping the material damp, removing it whole where possible, and wearing the right protective equipment.

Some materials are higher risk, such as pipe lagging, sprayed coatings and most asbestos insulating board. That work is licensed and must be carried out by a contractor holding an HSE licence. Our guide to licensed and non-licensed work explains the difference, and the licensed removal page covers what happens then.

How it works

  1. Tell us what needs removing and send photos, with a survey or test result if you have one
  2. If the material hasn’t been identified, we sample it first
  3. We plan the job: the method, controls, waste and any notification needed, and send a quote
  4. On the day we set up a work area, keep dust down, remove the material whole where we can, and bag or wrap it
  5. The area is cleaned, the waste goes to a permitted site, and you receive the waste paperwork

Identify it first

If you don’t know what the material is, it needs testing before anyone plans the removal, because the method depends on the type of material. See asbestos testing.

Waste and paperwork

Asbestos waste is hazardous waste. It’s double-bagged or wrapped, carried by a registered waste carrier and taken to a permitted site, with a consignment note. Keep that paperwork: it shows the waste was disposed of legally.

Asbestos removal: questions

Do you need to test it first?

If it hasn’t been identified, yes. The removal method depends on what the material is, so we either take a sample or ask for an existing survey or test result.

Can you remove asbestos the same day you visit?

Removal is planned in advance: the method, the controls, the waste and, for some work, a notification to the enforcing authority. We’ll agree a date when we quote.

What happens to the waste?

It’s sealed in heavy-duty bags or wrapped in polythene, labelled, and taken to a permitted site. You get the consignment note.

Is all asbestos removal licensed?

No. Most asbestos cement and textured coatings are non-licensed work. Lagging, sprayed coatings and most insulating board are licensed. The material and the job decide which.

Where do you work?

Across London and the South East: Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight. Find your area.

How do I get a quote?

Send us the postcode, what the material is and where, and photos if you can, through our quote form or call 07833 053 749.
