Asbestos surveys in London and the South East

An asbestos survey finds out whether asbestos-containing materials are present, where they are, how much there is and what condition they’re in. Any building built or refurbished before 2000 can contain asbestos, from garage roofs and Artex ceilings to floor tiles, soffits and boiler cupboards.

There are two main types, set out in HSE’s guide HSG264. A management survey is for a building in normal use and involves minor intrusion. A refurbishment and demolition survey is needed before building work and is fully intrusive, so the areas involved need to be empty. We also carry out pre-purchase surveys for people buying an older property.

How it works

  1. Tell us about the building, its age and why you need a survey
  2. We agree the type of survey and the areas it covers, and send a quote
  3. Our surveyor inspects and takes small samples of suspect materials
  4. Samples go to an accredited laboratory for analysis
  5. You receive a written report with locations, results, condition and recommendations

Which survey do you need?

If the building is in normal use and you need to manage what’s there, a management survey. If you’re about to refurbish, rewire, replace a kitchen or bathroom, or demolish, a refurbishment and demolition survey of the areas affected. Not sure? Tell us what you’re planning and we’ll advise. See which asbestos survey do I need?

What the report includes

Where suspect materials were found, which were sampled and the laboratory results, the condition of each material, photographs, and recommendations: leave and monitor, repair, or remove before work starts.

Asbestos surveys: questions

How long does an asbestos survey take?

It depends on the size of the building and the type of survey. A management survey of a typical house is shorter than a refurbishment and demolition survey, which is fully intrusive. We’ll give you an idea when we quote.

Do I need to be there?

Someone needs to give us access to every area in the survey, including the loft, garage and any locked rooms.

Will the survey damage my home?

A management survey involves minor intrusion to take small samples, which are sealed afterwards. A refurbishment and demolition survey is fully intrusive, because it has to look behind and under surfaces in the areas being worked on.

Is a homebuyer survey the same as an asbestos survey?

No. A homebuyer survey may mention possible asbestos, but it doesn’t usually take samples for laboratory analysis.

Where do you work?

Across London and the South East: Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight. Find your area.

How do I get a quote?

Send us the postcode, what the material is and where, and photos if you can, through our quote form or call 07833 053 749.
