Asbestos garage roof removal near Foxcotte

You can’t stand on an asbestos cement roof: they won’t take a person’s weight. We work from ladders, stepladders, towers or crawling boards as the roof needs. We often deal with cement wall panels, cement gutters and corrugated roof sheets, and people normally contact us about concrete-panel garages and brittle, leaking roofs.

Rural garages near Foxcotte are often larger, or part of a range of outbuildings, so photos and sizes help us quote. Nothing is removed until it’s been identified, as the right approach depends on the material.

Why people call us in Foxcotte

Weather slowly breaks down the surface of cement sheets, so they become brittle.

Buildings from before 2000 can hide asbestos in many places. Typical situations are:

  • Cracked, mossy or leaking roofs
  • Roofs to clear before demolition
  • Block garages
  • Pieces of broken roof

Across Foxcotte, garages and outbuildings may date from before 2000, often with cement roofs.

What your quote should include

  • That samples are analysed by an accredited laboratory
  • How fibres will be kept down
  • Whether VAT is included
  • The documents you will receive

Questions from Foxcotte

Do you cover small places like Foxcotte?

We do: small villages are covered too. Tell us about access and parking.

Is asbestos common in Foxcotte homes?

It depends on its age and history: asbestos was used until the 1999 ban, so older homes and older alterations in Foxcotte can contain it. Garage roofs, Artex, floor tiles, soffits and flues are typical examples.

Do you give written quotes?

Yes, every quote is in writing and says what’s included, including whether VAT is included.

What if asbestos is found during building work?

Work there should pause and the area be kept clear. We’ll identify it and advise on removal.

How do I know if my garage roof is asbestos?

Pre-2000 grey corrugated sheeting often is, but only a test confirms it. A sample test will tell you.

Should all asbestos be removed?

Not always: sound material that won’t be disturbed can often stay. It should be recorded and checked.

Is damaged asbestos an emergency?

First, keep people away from the damaged material: close it off and don’t clean it up yourself. Then get in touch and we will advise.

Do you work in Foxcotte?

Materials we deal with

Corrugated sheets

Corrugated asbestos cement sheets are the main part of most garage roofs. We wet them and lower them whole.

Gutters and downpipes

We take them down in whole lengths.

The process

Access is by ladders, towers or crawling boards, not the fragile sheets, because asbestos cement roofs are fragile. Nobody else needs to be in the work area, so children and pets should be kept elsewhere. In December, it’s dark in Foxcotte by about 4:00pm, so we start early on winter roof jobs.

  1. Get in touch with photos
  2. We confirm the material, testing a sample if needed
  3. We quote for the removal and disposal
  4. On the day we wet, unfix and lower the sheets whole
  5. The waste goes to a permitted site with paperwork

How to prepare

  • Keep the area clear of children and pets
  • Let us know where we can park
  • Keep away from the material in the meantime

More about this service

Weighing up your options

Removing the roof sheets or the whole garage? Cement walls come down the same careful way; other parts may need a builder or demolition contractor. Our quotes are clear about VAT.

What you get

  • Waste paperwork for every removal
  • Jobs planned to HSE guidance
  • Covering London and the South East
  • Houses, flats and business premises

See how we quote and the cost guide.

Can I do it myself?

HSE advises the public not to repair or remove asbestos themselves. Higher-risk materials such as lagging, sprayed coatings and most insulating board must only be dealt with by an HSE-licensed contractor.

Never put asbestos in a bin or skip. It has to go to a site that accepts it, and some councils accept small amounts from residents by arrangement.

Afterwards

Any other asbestos in the garage should be noted, or removed at the same time if you prefer.

Going forward:

  • Give us a rough size
  • Empty the garage, but leave the roof alone
  • Keep pets and children inside
  • Book your roofer in advance

What to avoid

Do not climb onto or walk on an asbestos cement roof: it can break underfoot.

Do not jet-wash, scrub or wire-brush the sheets.

Landlords, managing agents and employers

For managing agents and freeholders in Foxcotte, the asbestos register for common parts should be kept up to date and shared with contractors.

Duty holders for workplaces and the shared parts of flats in Foxcotte must manage asbestos under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. That means finding it, assessing it, recording it and planning how to manage it.
