Asbestos garage roof removal for North End

How asbestos garage roof removal works in North End

Garage roof removal in North End normally includes the sheets, ridge pieces, fixings and any asbestos cement gutters and downpipes, wrapped and labelled ready for disposal. Typical jobs include pieces of broken roof and cracked, mossy or leaking roofs, involving downpipes, cement wall panels and corrugated roof sheets.

In North End, garages are often reached through the garden or along a lane, so we plan how to carry the sheets out. Paperwork is part of every job, which is useful when you sell, let or build.

After the job

If the garage has other asbestos, such as cement wall panels or a flue, it should be recorded, or removed together.

Going forward:

  • Give us a rough size
  • Clear the garage before the day, without touching the roof
  • Keep children and pets indoors during the work
  • Photos of the garage and the way in help

What to avoid

Never pressure-wash or brush the roof.

Do not jet-wash, scrub or wire-brush the sheets.

Responsibilities for owners

Void periods are a good time for asbestos work, while the property is empty.

Schools, halls and community buildings are non-domestic premises, so whoever runs them has a duty to manage asbestos.

What’s included, and what is not

To be clear about the scope:

  • If the roof turns out not to be asbestos cement, the method may change
  • Shared garage blocks may need the owners’ agreement
  • High winds can delay roof work

If in doubt, ask: we will recommend a test, a survey or removal.

What we deal with

  • Bargeboards
  • Corrugated cement sheets
  • Fixings and bolts
  • Gutters and downpipes
  • Ridge pieces
  • Roof felt
  • Cement wall panels

What affects the price in North End

These are the main things that affect the price of garage roof removal:

  • Disposal costs
  • Parking and access charges
  • Material and condition
  • Licensed or non-licensed

Compare what each quote includes, not just the total: scope, method, waste disposal and paperwork.

What to photograph

The most useful photos are:

  • How we’d reach it
  • A clear close-up
  • A rough size or measurement
  • Any damage, cracks or broken pieces

Photos from a safe distance help: do not touch the material, just send them through our quote form.

How it works

Each sheet is wrapped in heavy polythene or bagged and labelled as it comes down, ready for disposal at a permitted site. On the day, we check the area and talk you through the plan first. In December, it’s dark in North End by about 3:55pm, so winter roof jobs start early and finish in daylight.

  1. Send photos of the garage and the roof
  2. We confirm the material, testing a sample if needed
  3. You get a written quote
  4. On the day we wet, unfix and lower the sheets whole
  5. The waste goes to a permitted site with paperwork

Before we arrive

  • Have any previous surveys or test results ready
  • Keep away from the material in the meantime
  • Clear the way to the work area

North End: your questions answered

Do you work in North End despite London parking restrictions?

We do. Tell us about parking, permits and access so we can plan; all of Greater London is inside the ULEZ.

Do older homes in North End have asbestos?

Homes built or refitted before 2000 can. A sample test is the only reliable answer. Common places include garage roofs, textured ceilings, floor tiles, soffits and flues.

Can you advise before I buy a property?

Yes. With the seller’s agreement, a pre-purchase survey tells you what’s there before you commit.

What if my house is newer?

Asbestos was banned in 1999, so buildings built after 2000 shouldn’t contain it, but older parts and reused materials can still contain it.

My garage is in a row: can you still do it?

Usually, if we can work safely alongside the neighbouring garages. Send us some photos.

Do you take down the walls too?

Cement walls can come down the same way as the roof; brick walls and the base are a job for a builder or demolition contractor.

How can I get a price?

Just call 07833 053 749 or use our quote form. Include the postcode, a description and photos.

I think I’ve damaged asbestos. What now?

Get everyone out of the area and keep it closed. Do not try to clean up the debris yourself, and ask for advice; your GP can advise if you’re worried about your health.

Which option is right?

Be wary of a price that is much lower than others: breaking the sheets, skipping the controls or fly-tipping the waste. Always ask for the consignment note. Identifying asbestos early is cheaper than stopping work later, when the whole project can be held up.

What you get

  • Waste paperwork for every removal
  • Across London and the South East
  • Paperwork you can show your buyer, landlord or builder
  • Honest advice, even when the answer is to leave it

Materials we deal with

Ridge pieces

They’re removed with the sheets and wrapped together.

Roof felt

We’ll tell you if it needs testing.

Should you do it yourself?

HSE’s advice to the public is not to try to repair or remove asbestos yourself. Higher-risk materials such as lagging, sprayed coatings and most insulating board must only be dealt with by an HSE-licensed contractor.

Working on a fragile asbestos cement roof is dangerous in itself, quite apart from the asbestos, so never climb onto one.

  • Identify it first: we test or survey before planning removal
  • Done to the regulations: HSE guidance and CAR 2012
  • Everything in writing: quotes, reports, results and waste notes
  • Waste sealed and labelled, then taken to a permitted site
