Corrugated asbestos cement roofs are common on older garages, including around Puddledock. We take them off whole, keep them damp, wrap them and take them away, and give you the waste paperwork. Whether it’s double garages and brittle, leaking roofs, we deal with cement wall panels, downpipes and cement gutters and more.

Garages around Puddledock may be bigger than in towns, so tell us the size and send photos. We work to HSE guidance on every job, large or small.

How we price garage roof removal

The cost depends on:

  • The type of material and its condition
  • How much there is
  • Whether the work is non-licensed, notifiable or licensed
  • Access: height, lofts, steps and space

A price that looks too good to be true often is: proper controls, lab analysis and legal waste disposal cost money.

Looking after things afterwards

We clear up and check for fragments.

Once we’re done:

  • Keep pets and children inside
  • Clear the garage before the day, without touching the roof
  • Measure or estimate the size of the roof
  • Send photos of the whole garage and the access

What to avoid

Don’t drill, cut or break the sheets.

Never pressure-wash or brush the roof.

How it works

We work from ladders, stepladders, towers or crawling boards, never standing on the sheets themselves, because asbestos cement roofs are fragile. While we work, the area stays out of bounds, so arrange for pets and children to be elsewhere. We plan garage roof jobs in Puddledock for daylight: in late December it’s dark by about 3:50pm, in June not until about 9:20pm.

  1. Tell us roughly how big the garage is and how we’d reach it
  2. We confirm the roof is asbestos cement, testing a sample if needed
  3. You get a written quote, and we agree a date that suits your new roof
  4. The sheets are damped, unfixed and lowered without breaking
  5. We take the wrapped sheets away and send the consignment note

Getting ready

  • Keep children and pets away on the day
  • Don’t disturb the material before we get there
  • Dig out previous surveys

Weighing up your options

DIY garage roof removal? HSE advises the public not to remove asbestos themselves, and the roof is fragile, so there is a serious falls risk too. Every quote says whether VAT is included, so you can compare like with like.

Why people choose us

  • Waste taken to a permitted site with a consignment note
  • Houses, flats and business premises
  • Accredited laboratory results
  • Clear written quotes

Take a look at how we price jobs and the cost guide.

Doing it yourself?

Home testing kits exist, but you have to disturb the material to use one. HSE recommends a competent person takes samples.

HSE’s advice to the public is not to try to repair or remove asbestos yourself. Higher-risk materials such as lagging, sprayed coatings and most insulating board must only be dealt with by an HSE-licensed contractor.

Duty holders and landlords in Puddledock

Duty holders for workplaces and the shared parts of flats in Puddledock must manage asbestos under regulation 4 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. That means finding it, assessing it, recording it and planning how to manage it.

Void periods are a good time for asbestos work, when rooms are empty and work can be done without disruption.

FAQs for Puddledock

Do you cover small places like Puddledock?

Yes. We cover villages and hamlets as well as towns. Just tell us how to reach the property.

Do you cover Puddledock and the area around Swanley station?

Yes, we cover Puddledock and the area towards Swanley station, about 1.8 miles south.

Is a home built after 2000 likely to contain asbestos?

Buildings from after 2000 shouldn’t, because of the 1999 ban, although older materials can sometimes be reused or left in extensions.

Is damaged asbestos an emergency?

First, keep everyone away and don’t clean it up. Then contact us for advice.

What’s the difference between a test and a survey?

A test checks specific materials; a survey checks a whole building or work area. For building work, a survey is normally needed.

Can you help with a flat?

Yes, of course. For shared areas, ask the managing agent about the asbestos register.

Can the roof be overclad?

Sometimes, if the roof is sound, but preparation must not disturb the surface. Pressure-washing and wire-brushing are out.

How long does it take to remove a garage roof?

A single garage is usually a short job, though access and condition affect it.

  • Nothing removed blind: unknown materials are tested first
  • Work planned to the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 and HSE guidance
  • Paperwork for your records: reports, lab results and consignment notes
  • Waste sealed and labelled, then taken to a permitted site
