Asbestos removal in Penn

Removal is planned, not improvised: the method, the controls, the waste and any notification needed, before anyone starts. From Artex ceilings before renovation and cement flues and gutters, we cover textured coatings, flue pipes and water tanks and more.

Rural removal near Penn can mean longer distances to carry waste, so we plan the route before the day. You get written paperwork for every job: a report, laboratory results or a waste consignment note, for your records.

Can I do it myself?

HSE’s advice to the public is not to try to repair or remove asbestos yourself. Higher-risk materials such as lagging, sprayed coatings and most insulating board must only be dealt with by an HSE-licensed contractor.

If you do find something during DIY, stop: leave the area, do not clean it up, and ask for advice.

The process

At the end, the work area is cleaned with suitable methods and checked, and we talk you through what was done. Our team uses the right protective equipment, and use controls to keep dust down. What it might be made of

Floor tiles

Black bitumen adhesive may need treating separately.

Asbestos cement

Cement products make up most removal jobs: roofs, gutters, flues and tanks. It’s kept damp and removed whole where possible.

Where asbestos turns up

Materials deteriorate with age: cement sheets become brittle, coatings crack and tiles lift, which is when removal comes up.

You can’t tell by looking, but these are common reasons people contact us:

  • Asbestos found during building work
  • Garage roofs and whole garages
  • Textured coatings
  • Debris left from a previous job

Older buildings in Penn, near Church of St Margaret or elsewhere, may have asbestos in later alterations rather than the original fabric, so we identify materials before planning removal.

What your quote should include

  • Whether VAT is included
  • What category of work it is
  • Proof of an HSE licence where it’s needed
  • Suitable insurance for the work

Read the checklist

For landlords, agents and businesses

If you manage or own a block in Penn, the register for shared areas needs keeping current and sharing with trades.

If your business premises in Penn were built before 2000, you are likely to need an asbestos register and a management plan, and contractors must be told what’s there.

Limits to be aware of

It’s worth knowing what asbestos removal does and doesn’t cover:

  • We do not remove anything until it’s been identified
  • Removal in strong wind or heavy rain may need rescheduling
  • Replacing what’s removed, such as a roof or ceiling, is usually separate

If in doubt, ask: we’ll recommend a test, a survey or removal.

Penn questions

Do you work near High Wycombe station?

Yes, we cover Penn and the area towards High Wycombe station, about 2.1 miles west.

Do you come out to small villages like Penn?

Yes. We cover villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about access and parking.

Can you quote from photos?

Many jobs can be quoted from photos, but larger or unclear jobs may need a visit.

Which asbestos work needs a licence?

Higher-risk materials need an HSE-licensed contractor. Cement and textured coatings typically aren’t licensed.

What does removal cost?

Every job is priced individually: it depends on the material, quantity, condition, access and disposal.

Where does the asbestos go?

We bag or wrap it, label it and take it to a permitted site by a registered waste carrier, with a consignment note as your record.

What if the weather’s bad?

That depends: indoor work carries on, while outdoor roof work may be postponed in strong wind or heavy rain.

Can I put asbestos in a skip?

Never: it’s hazardous waste. We take it to a permitted site with paperwork.

  • Nothing removed blind: unknown materials are tested first
  • Planned to HSE guidance and the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012
  • Written paperwork: reports, results and waste consignment notes
  • Asbestos waste double-bagged or wrapped and taken to a permitted site
