About asbestos garage roof removal in RG5
Removing cement roof sheets is normally non-licensed work under HSE guidance, but it still needs the right controls: wetting, removal in whole sheets, protective equipment and proper disposal. Typical materials include corrugated roof sheets, cement wall panels and cement gutters, and typical jobs are storm-damaged sheets and block garages.
We wear disposable coveralls and respirators throughout, and keep the area clear of everyone else.

Garages across RG5, from Woodley to 0 villages and hamlets, often have corrugated cement roofs from before 2000. Town garages are often in blocks, village ones among outbuildings.
Woodley: If you let a house with a garage near Winnersh Triangle station, find out whether the roof is asbestos cement before repairs. Garages on busy roads like the A4 and A3290 need loading planned in advance. We plan garage roof jobs in Woodley for daylight: in late December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, in June not until about 9:25pm.
What it costs
What drives the price:
- Licensed or non-licensed
- Travel and parking
- Access to the area
- Disposal costs
What you pay depends on the job itself: the materials involved, how much there is, access and paperwork. We quote each job individually.
What to photograph
When you send photos, these help most:
- A closer photo of the material, without touching it
- Any labels or markings, if you can see them safely
- The parking area
- The route in: gates, steps, stairs or the loft hatch
Photos and a postcode help us quote quickly: use our quote form or call 07833 053 749.
Should you do it yourself?
Home testing kits exist, but you have to disturb the material to use one. HSE recommends a competent person takes samples.
Never put asbestos in a bin or skip. It has to go to a site that accepts it, and some councils accept small amounts from residents by arrangement.
Afterwards
If the garage has other asbestos, such as cement wall panels or a flue, it should be recorded, or removed at the same time if you prefer.
- Keep the consignment note afterwards
- Keep pets and children inside
- Let neighbours know beforehand
- Empty the garage, but leave the roof alone
Don’t store anything on the roof or lean ladders against brittle sheets.
Don’t climb onto or walk on an asbestos cement roof: it can break underfoot.
What’s included, and what is not
It’s worth knowing what garage roof removal does and doesn’t cover:
- High winds can delay roof work
- Shared garage blocks may need the owners’ agreement
- Re-roofing is normally separate
Materials we deal with
Roof felt
We’ll tell you if it needs testing.
Gutters and downpipes
They’re removed whole where possible.
Your questions about garage roof removal in RG5
Can asbestos go in my bin?
No: skips and household bins can’t take asbestos. It has to go to a site that accepts it, with the right paperwork.
Can you come if the asbestos is damaged?
Make the area safe first: shut the door if you can and don’t sweep it up. Then contact us for advice on the next step.
Can you quote from photos?
Often we can quote from clear photos and a description; if not, we will arrange to see it.
How do I get a quote?
Just send photos through our quote form, or phone 07833 053 749. Include the postcode, a description and photos.
Do you work in flats?
We do. In a block, the shared areas are the responsibility of the managing agent or freeholder, who should hold the asbestos register.
Which asbestos work needs a licence?
It covers the higher-risk materials: pipe lagging, sprayed coatings and most insulating board. It needs a contractor with an HSE licence.
Do you take down the walls too?
Cement wall panels can be removed in the same way as the roof sheets. Brick walls and bases need a builder or demolition contractor.
- Nothing removed blind: unknown materials are tested first
- Planned to HSE guidance and the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012
- Paperwork for your records: reports, lab results and consignment notes
- Asbestos waste double-bagged or wrapped and taken to a permitted site
