How asbestos removal works in Oxfordshire

Asbestos removal starts with knowing what the material is. If it hasn’t been tested, we sample it first, because the method depends on the material. People often contact us about old cold water tanks and asbestos found during building work, including cement roof sheets, cement soffits and water tanks.

Materials are released carefully and removed whole where possible, never broken up, dropped or cut with power tools.

  1. Send us the postcode and photos
  2. We check whether it’s licensed, notifiable or non-licensed work
  3. We book the work and notify if required
  4. On the day we set up, remove and bag the material
  5. We dispose of the waste legally and send the paperwork

Asbestos removal across Oxfordshire

From Oxford, Banbury and Didcot to small villages, Oxfordshire has every kind of removal job. In towns, parking matters; in villages, access. The Chilterns National Landscape and the North Wessex Downs National Landscape are within easy reach of places across Oxfordshire, where rural and farm buildings with cement roofs are common.

Oxford: At a school such as East Oxford Primary School, removal would be arranged with the duty holder, with the area empty. Older buildings in Oxford, near St Clement's Church or elsewhere, may have asbestos in later alterations rather than the original fabric, so we test before we plan. In winter, the light goes in Oxford by about 3:55pm, so outdoor jobs start early.

What’s included, and what is not

A few things to be aware of:

  • Replacing what’s removed, such as a roof or ceiling, is typically separate
  • Removal in strong wind or heavy rain may need rescheduling
  • Some jobs must be notified first, which affects the start date

How we price asbestos removal

Every quote reflects:

  • Travel and parking
  • The survey scope
  • Whether the work is non-licensed, notifiable or licensed
  • How easy it is to reach

Dealing with asbestos before building work is typically cheaper than finding it mid-job, when the whole project can be held up.

Sending photos

The most useful photos are:

  • Where we could park
  • A rough size or measurement
  • Damaged areas
  • An overall view

Tell us about the material, its location and your plans. Then fill in the enquiry form or give us a call on 07833 053 749.

Afterwards

File the waste paperwork safely: it proves legal disposal.

  • Clear the area around the work, without disturbing the asbestos
  • Book the replacement before removal
  • File the consignment note
  • Tell neighbours if the work is close to their property

Asbestos never goes in ordinary bins or skips.

Asbestos never goes in ordinary bins or skips.

Should you do it yourself?

Fragile roofs are a serious falls risk, quite apart from the asbestos, so stay off it.

Asbestos waste cannot go in household bins, recycling or skips. It has to go to a site that accepts it, and some councils accept small amounts from residents by arrangement.

Responsibilities for owners

Contractors working for you need asbestos information before they start. HSE’s campaigns stress this point to building owners and trades alike.

Between tenancies is a good time to deal with asbestos, when rooms are empty and work can be done without disruption.

Common questions in Oxfordshire

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes, we do. We work for landlords, managing agents, employers and contractors as well as homeowners.

Can I stay at home during removal?

It depends on the job: outdoor jobs don’t usually affect you. Indoors, the work area is sealed and out of use while we work.

How do I know if my property contains asbestos?

Looking won’t tell you. A sample analysed in a laboratory is the reliable way to find out, and anything from before 2000 is worth checking.

What if my house is newer?

Asbestos was banned in 1999, so a home built after 2000 shouldn’t contain it, though older parts, reused materials or earlier outbuildings can.

Can you advise before I buy a property?

Of course. A pre-purchase survey, arranged with the seller’s permission, shows what asbestos is there before you exchange.

Can asbestos go in my bin?

Never: it’s hazardous waste. We take it to a permitted site with paperwork.

Does all asbestos have to be removed?

It doesn’t always have to come out: material in good condition that won’t be disturbed can often be left and managed. It should be recorded and checked.
