About our artex removal in Henhurst

Many Artex ceilings contain no asbestos at all. Testing a sample tells you, so work can go ahead normally if it’s negative. Typical jobs include ceilings before plastering and rented homes refurbished between tenants, involving coated plasterboard, coated ceiling roses and swirl patterns.

In towns and villages like Henhurst, textured ceilings appear in older and newer homes. Small jobs get the same care as big ones, with the same attention to the regulations.

Should you do it yourself?

HSE advises the public not to repair or remove asbestos themselves. Higher-risk materials such as lagging, sprayed coatings and most insulating board must only be dealt with by an HSE-licensed contractor.

Asbestos waste can’t go in household bins, recycling or skips. It has to go to a site that accepts it, and some councils accept small amounts from residents by arrangement.

Afterwards

The surface is left ready for making good.

Going forward:

  • Clear the rooms before the work
  • Line up the plasterer for afterwards
  • Give us room sizes
  • Test every different coating

Things not to do

Do not use a steamer or chemical stripper on an untested coating.

Plan testing before the renovation starts.

Limits to be aware of

To be clear about the scope:

  • Other materials may need their own approach
  • Big jobs need notifying in advance, so allow time
  • Untested coatings are tested first, because a clear result means ordinary methods can be used

If in doubt, ask: we’ll recommend a test, a survey or removal.

Choosing the right option

Plastering over it avoids disturbing it, but do not sand it smooth first, and the asbestos stays in the building. Sometimes a test shows removal isn’t needed, because the material is clear.

Why people choose us

  • Records for your files

Henhurst: your questions answered

Do you cover small places like Henhurst?

We do: small villages are covered too. Tell us about access and parking.

Do you work near Sole Street station?

Yes, we cover Henhurst and the area towards Sole Street station, about 1.3 miles south.

Is my textured ceiling in Henhurst asbestos?

Not every coating does: many coatings are asbestos-free. Testing a sample is how you find out.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

We do. Landlords, agents, businesses and builders all use our services.

What if asbestos is found during building work?

Stop work in that area and keep people out, then have the material identified before anything else happens.

What’s the difference between a test and a survey?

Testing tells you about particular materials; a survey looks at everything in scope, including things you hadn’t spotted.

Can you help with a shop or office?

We do. Send us the details of the premises.

Do you work in flats?

Yes. For shared areas, ask the managing agent about the asbestos register.

Responsibilities for owners

The duty to manage applies to non-domestic premises and common parts, not to single private homes, but contractors still need to know about asbestos before they work.

Before maintenance in a rented home, agents may ask about asbestos. A test or survey gives a definite answer.

What happens

On the day, we seal off the room and protect floors and fittings, and keep the coating damp as we work. We’ll tell you when we’ve finished and what you will receive afterwards.

  1. Tell us where the textured ceilings and walls are
  2. Each coating is sampled and tested
  3. If asbestos is found, we explain the options and quote
  4. We seal off each room and remove the coating wet, or take the boards down whole
  5. We clean up and send the waste paperwork
