Asbestos removal and surveys in CT15

We work across all of the CT15 postcode district, including St Margaret's at Cliffe, Sibertswold and Eythorne. Surveys, testing and removal, planned to HSE guidance.

Artex removal in CT15: what to expect

Not every textured coating contains asbestos. A small sample tells you which you have, so work can go ahead normally if it’s negative. People often contact us about ceilings due for plastering or skimming and walls before tiling, including stipple finishes, coated plasterboard and swirl patterns.

The coating is softened with water, steam or gel and removed with hand tools, never sanded or scraped dry.

  1. Send photos of the textured surfaces
  2. We test a sample of each coating
  3. We talk through the options
  4. We carry out the removal
  5. We dispose of the waste legally

What you’ll pay

A price that looks too good to be true often is: controls, protective equipment, laboratory fees and legal disposal all cost money.

Never sand or dry-scrape Artex before testing.

Do not sand, scrape dry or wire-brush a textured coating before it’s been tested.

Should you do it yourself?

HSE’s advice to the public is not to try to repair or remove asbestos yourself. Licensed materials are strictly for licensed contractors.

Never put asbestos in a bin or skip. It must go to a permitted site; check with your council about small amounts.

Where asbestos turns up

Coatings get damaged by water leaks, cracks and DIY, which can make them crumble.

You can’t tell by looking, but these are common reasons people contact us:

  • Coatings damaged by DIY
  • Structural work through coated ceilings
  • Textured walls before a refit
  • Landlord refurbishments

Your options compared

Very cheap quotes for Artex removal can mean dry scraping or sanding, which releases fibres. Ask how the coating will be removed and where the waste goes.

What your quote should include

  • Where the waste goes, with paperwork
  • Whether the work is licensed, notifiable non-licensed or non-licensed
  • The method and controls
  • That samples are analysed by an accredited laboratory

CT15: your questions answered

Can you come if the asbestos is damaged?

Make the area safe first: close it off and do not clean it up yourself. Then contact us for advice on the next step.

What if the weather’s bad?

It depends on the job: indoor work carries on, while outdoor roof work may be postponed in strong wind or heavy rain.

When can you start?

Dates are agreed once the quote is accepted. Notifiable jobs can’t start until they’ve been notified.

Does someone need to be there?

Someone needs to give us access to the areas involved, and to be available for questions.

Do you work in CT15?

Yes, we do: CT15 is within the area we cover in Kent. Send the postcode and a few photos for a quote.

Do you need a licence to remove Artex?

Normally not: HSE’s code of practice says textured coating work is not normally licensable, though large steam or gel jobs are notifiable.

Do I need a test or a survey?

Testing tells you about particular materials; a survey looks at everything in scope, including things you hadn’t spotted.

  • Nothing removed blind: unknown materials are tested first
  • Work planned to the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 and HSE guidance
  • Paperwork for your records: reports, lab results and consignment notes
  • Asbestos waste double-bagged or wrapped and taken to a permitted site
