Asbestos testing in Cyprus
How asbestos testing works in Cyprus
Testing suits one or two specific materials. For larger projects in Cyprus, a survey covers more, and we’ll tell you honestly which you need. Typical jobs include soffit boards and corrugated roof sheets, involving textured ceilings, black adhesive and floor tiles.
In towns and villages like Cyprus, we often test a single material in a flat before work, when a full survey would be more than you need. Clear answers come first: is it asbestos, and what should you do about it.

Cyprus properties and asbestos testing
Cyprus is about 2 miles east of Canning Town, in Greater London. Properties in Cyprus range from older houses to newer estates and commercial buildings, and anything from before 2000 may contain asbestos. Cyprus is one of 764 towns and villages in Greater London we cover. Our area stretches from Cyprus to London (about 7 miles away).
Schools such as Winsor Primary School should have an asbestos management plan, and staff can ask to see how it works. If you let property close to Woolwich station, a quick test between tenants is worth considering.

Questions from Cyprus
Could my house in Cyprus contain asbestos?
Any home in Cyprus built or refurbished before 2000 can contain asbestos, but only a test can confirm it. Look at garage roofs, textured ceilings, old floor tiles, soffits and flues.
Can you work in Cyprus with London’s parking rules?
Yes, we work across London. Let us know the parking situation and we’ll plan around it.
Can I take a sample myself?
HSE’s advice is for a competent person to take samples. We can take it for you.
Could my home contain asbestos?
You cannot tell by eye. A sample analysed in a laboratory is the reliable way to find out, especially in buildings from before 2000.
How can I get a price?
Send us the details: the postcode, what you’ve found and where it is. To do that, ring 07833 053 749, or send the details through our contact page.
Can you help with a flat?
Yes. For shared areas, ask the managing agent about the asbestos register.
How quickly can you come out?
It depends on the job and our diary. You will get available dates with the quote, and notifiable work needs notifying before it starts.
Can you tell if it’s asbestos by looking?
Not by looking: a sample has to be analysed in a laboratory. We sample it with controls and send it to an accredited laboratory.
How it works
Each sample is small, sealed in a bag, labelled and logged, then sent to an accredited laboratory. Parking close by makes the day easier, so let us know about any restrictions.
- Tell us what you’d like tested
- We confirm the number of samples and the price
- We visit, take the samples and seal each point
- We send the samples to an accredited laboratory
- The written results come back to you, and we explain them
Preparing for the visit
- Keep away from the material in the meantime
- Warn neighbours if needed
- Dig out previous surveys

Where asbestos turns up
Textured coatings, floor tiles, cement sheets and boards can all look the same with or without asbestos, so appearance and age aren’t enough.
In older properties, we often see:
- Garage roofs before replacement
- A material damaged during DIY
- Single materials in rented homes between tenancies
- Soffit boards
For older homes anywhere in Cyprus, from near St Michael and All Angels Church outwards, get suspect materials tested before you start.

After we have finished in Cyprus
You get a written laboratory result for each sample, stating whether asbestos was detected and what type.
Once you know what’s there, a few simple habits help:
- Keep the results for future work or a sale
- Leave the material undisturbed until we have sampled it
- Tell us what work you’re planning
- Not sure between a test and a survey? Ask
Don’ts
Please don’t take your own sample; tell us where it is and we’ll sample it safely.
Get the result before work is booked, so you can plan properly.
Should you do it yourself?
Home testing kits exist, but you have to disturb the material to use one. HSE advises that samples are best taken by a competent person.
HSE advises the public not to repair or remove asbestos themselves. Higher-risk materials such as lagging, sprayed coatings and most insulating board must only be dealt with by an HSE-licensed contractor.
Choosing the right option
You can buy home testing kits, but you have to disturb the material yourself to use one. HSE recommends a competent person does the sampling. How easy the material is to reach affects the price, so tell us about access.
What you get
- Reports that say what wasn’t accessed
- Accredited laboratory results
- Each material’s condition recorded
- Records for your files

Materials, one by one
Cement sheets
We sample from the edge of a sheet, without standing on the roof.
Floor tiles and adhesive
We test tiles and adhesive separately where needed, as one may contain asbestos when the other doesn’t.
What we do and do not cover
Worth knowing before booking:
- If the material is in a hard-to-reach place, access may need planning
- We cannot confirm asbestos from a photo
- Clearance air testing after licensed work is done by an independent UKAS-accredited analyst
Not sure what you need? Send us photos and we will tell you honestly before you book.
