How asbestos garage roof removal works in IG11
Many garages built before 2000, in IG11 and elsewhere, have corrugated asbestos cement roofs. We remove the sheets whole, damp and wrapped, and dispose of them at a permitted site, and give you the waste paperwork. Typical materials include ridge pieces, corrugated roof sheets and downpipes, and people usually contact us about broken sheets after high winds and garages due a new roof.
Each sheet is wrapped in heavy polythene or bagged and labelled as it comes down, ready for disposal at a permitted site.
- Give us the size of the garage and the access
- We confirm the roof is asbestos cement, testing a sample if needed
- We quote and book a date around your roofer
- The sheets are damped, unfixed and lowered without breaking
- We take the wrapped sheets away and send the consignment note
What it costs in IG11

Garage roof removal in IG11
Across IG11, we remove roofs from single garages, doubles, blocks and lean-tos, in Barking, East Ham and Loxford and its smaller places.
Barking: Properties near Ripple Nature Reserve may have outbuildings as well as a garage, so it can make sense to do them at once. Across Barking, garages and outbuildings may date from before 2000. We plan garage roof jobs in Barking for daylight: in late December it’s dark by about 3:50pm, in June not until about 9:20pm.
What we deal with in IG11
Corrugated asbestos cement was widely used for garage roofs until asbestos was banned in 1999, so they’re common across Greater London.
If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth getting advice:
- Lean-to roofs
- Roofs to clear before demolition
- Garages in a row or block
- Brittle, leaking roofs
Duty holders and landlords in IG11
Between tenancies is a good time to deal with asbestos, when rooms are empty and work can be done without disruption.
Before maintenance in a rented home, agents may ask about asbestos. A test or survey gives a definite answer.
What it costs
What drives the price:
- Licensed or non-licensed
- The size of the job
- Material and condition
- Access: height, lofts, steps and space
Doing several things in one visit can help, for example testing several materials, or removing a garage roof and a flue at the same time.
Helping us quote
What to photograph:
- A rough size or measurement
- Any damage, cracks or broken pieces
- An overall view
- A close-up from a safe distance
We quote each job individually, because no two are the same. Send photos through our quote form, or phone 07833 053 749 to get started.
Materials, one by one
Corrugated sheets
Corrugated asbestos cement sheets are the main part of most garage roofs. We wet them and lower them whole.
Fixings
The sheets are held on with bolts. We release them carefully so the sheets do not crack.
Should you do it yourself?
Never put asbestos in a bin or skip. It must go to a permitted site; check with your council about small amounts.
DIY sampling means disturbing the material yourself. HSE advises that samples are best taken by a competent person.
IG11 questions
Is garage roof removal licensed work?
In most cases, no: asbestos cement sheet removal is normally non-licensed under HSE guidance, though it still needs controls and legal disposal.
Can asbestos go in my bin?
No. Asbestos is hazardous waste and must go to a site that accepts it. We take it to a permitted site with paperwork.
How quickly can you come out?
That depends on the work and current bookings. You’ll get available dates with the quote, and notifiable work needs notifying before it starts.
Is asbestos dangerous?
Breathing in asbestos fibres can cause serious diseases, often decades later. The risk comes mainly from disturbing materials that contain it, so identifying it before work is important.
Could my home contain asbestos?
If it was built or refurbished before 2000, it may. Testing a sample is the only way to know.
Do you work in IG11?
Yes. We cover IG11 and the surrounding area as part of Greater London. Tell us the postcode and what you need.
How long does it take to remove a garage roof?
It depends on the size, access and the condition of the sheets, but most single garages are a short job once set up.
- Nothing removed blind: unknown materials are tested first
- Planned to HSE guidance and the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012
- Everything in writing: quotes, reports, results and waste notes
- Asbestos waste double-bagged or wrapped and taken to a permitted site
