Asbestos Testing in Hampshire

Asbestos testing across Hampshire

A test is a simple, definite way to find out. You’ll learn whether it contains asbestos and what kind, and we’ll explain your options. Typical jobs include soffits and porch canopies before replacement and one-off checks in rented property, including black adhesive, flue pipes and panels behind heaters.

The sample point is sealed, leaving the material safe while you wait for the result.

  1. Get in touch with photos
  2. We confirm a test is the right choice, rather than a survey
  3. Our surveyor takes the samples
  4. The samples go to an accredited laboratory
  5. We explain what the result means for your plans

What you will pay

Identifying asbestos early is cheaper than stopping work later, when everything has to stop.

Where we test in Hampshire

In Hampshire, a quick test before a small job is common, in towns and villages alike. Parts of Hampshire are within a few miles of the New Forest National Park, the South Downs National Park and the Surrey Hills National Landscape, where rural and farm buildings with cement roofs are common. Around 143 places in Hampshire are close to the coast, so outdoor roof work there is planned around the wind.

Basingstoke: If the property is on or near the A30 and A33, tell us about parking, as stopping on main roads can be restricted. Schools such as King's Furlong Infant School and Nursery should have an asbestos management plan, and staff can ask to see how it works.

What we deal with in Hampshire

Many products were made both with and without asbestos, so you can’t go by looks or age alone.

Buildings from before 2000 can hide asbestos in many places. Typical situations are:

  • Artex before downlights or rewiring
  • Debris found after DIY
  • Garage and shed roofs before removal or repair
  • Boiler cupboard panels

Prices and what affects them

Quotes vary because of:

  • The type of material and its condition
  • The size of the job
  • Travel and parking
  • Which survey type fits your plans

We do not publish a price list, because jobs vary so much. Our cost guides show published ranges, with dates and sources.

Helping us quote

Good photos help us plan and quote. Take them from a safe distance without touching the material:

  • Street parking nearby
  • Labels, if any
  • An idea of size
  • A photo of the whole area

Every job is quoted in writing. Fill in the enquiry form or give us a call on 07833 053 749 with the details, including any survey or test you already have.

Can I do it myself?

HSE’s advice to the public is not to try to repair or remove asbestos yourself. Higher-risk materials such as lagging, sprayed coatings and most insulating board must only be dealt with by an HSE-licensed contractor.

Working on a fragile asbestos cement roof is dangerous in itself, as well as an asbestos risk, so never climb onto one.

Your options compared

A test or a full survey? A test covers particular materials; a survey covers everything in scope. Small jobs typically just need a test.

What your quote should include

  • If the price includes VAT
  • What the report or result will contain
  • The scope of the job, in writing
  • That samples are analysed by an accredited laboratory

Good to know

So you know what to expect:

  • If the material is in a hard-to-reach place, access may need planning
  • Testing doesn’t look for anything else, so bigger work needs a survey
  • Clearance testing is a separate, independent job

Your questions about asbestos testing in Hampshire

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes, we do. We work for landlords, managing agents, employers and contractors as well as homeowners.

When can you start?

That depends on the work and current bookings. You’ll get available dates with the quote, and notifiable work needs notifying before it starts.

What’s the difference between a test and a survey?

A test answers the question for the materials sampled; a survey looks at everything in scope, including things you hadn’t spotted.

Will I get the price in writing?

Always: you get the scope and price in writing.

Can I take a sample myself?

Sampling is best left to a competent person, according to HSE, as it means disturbing the material. We can do it for you.

Do you work in Hampshire?

Yes. We cover Hampshire and the surrounding area as part of Hampshire. Send us the postcode for a quote.

Do you test textured ceilings?

Yes, we test textured coatings. Older coatings can contain a small amount of asbestos.
